Liking the feel here, let's see how the food and drink shapes up! Just squeaked in for happy hour at ten 'til seven, but waited 11 minutes for our drinks, though the place was empty. It IS opening night, however, so we'll attribute the slowness to startup jitters. +++++++++++++++++++++++++ Later +++++++++++++++++++++++++ Dinner was very good, but I think the highest marks went to a simple pizza crust lathered in garlic and olive oil and served as a replacement for a standard bread basket. They brought it as a trial run when their home-made focaccia ran low, but what a pleasant surprise! I hope it earns a permanent place on the menu. They make a very good crab cake--not my favorite which happens to be miles away from any body of water in Austin (Bartletts), but it is a close second. They also serve a home-made gnocci (delicious!!) with fantastic marinara. We ordered a sea bass and were disappointed when it wasn't Chilean sea bass. The disappointment was mostly centered on the price as the two were equal in price, but they certainly aren't equal in flavor in my eyes. However, I attribute that error to me for not recognizing the difference. It'll just mean I have to go back and try the "right one". In any case, it was good, but I wasn't blown away. We had only one item that was rated fair--the tuna tartare. It was significantly more avocado than tuna. In contrast, another brand new restaurant we tried--Park Tavern in Delray Beach, had a fantastic almost completely tuna ceviche. In fact, we were sad that it only had two tiny pieces of avocado. I'd strongly recommend the Park Tavern for that particular appetizer. Cafe Med does have lot of promise and I'm looking forward to my next visit!
